Interiors from dreams
The architecture of the these locations are combinations of real-life locations, and original ideas. What drives these dreams is unclear, and usually they involve shopping for an item of some kind.
Dream 1:
A warehouse type shop. Think Costco or Bunnings. Shelves
of goods floor to ceiling, with polished concrete flooring. Overhead,
LED lights burned. I was alone, looking for something to buy (a common
occurrence in these dreams)
Purchased: Slime, bags of lollies. I awoke disappointed to find them
not real.
Dream 2:
A street that doesn’t exist, seems to be based on a real location I
have visited, but altered. A pet shop sits at the bottom of this
street, nestled around the corner. Inside is primarily pet goods, not
animals. At the top of the street sits a lollie shop. You need to
ascend a brief flight of stairs before entering. It has dark wood
floorboards and shelves of sweets that glow from the yellow lights
above. The street is always dark, it is around 7pm, and is lit
sparsely by lampposts. It overlooks a forest, possibly a park.
Dream 3:
A shopping center, or large department store. White tile floors, white
painted walls, a large window/door at the front with morning light
shining through. The light is notably white and clear, perfect for a
crisp spring morning. I am inside a store, a maze of shelves that if I
stand on my toes I can look over. The shelves are spread out, carrying
beauty and care products. I am looking for nothing in particular, just
wandering on some sort of dream-created quest. I think I am younger
here.
Dream 4:
A tudor-era european inspired three story house with white stone
walls, wooden floors and stairs, and a downstairs playroom with little
in it. A family I know had recently moved into it, it was on a
mountain, I walk around their new house, exploring it with my siblings
and friends. My siblings are much younger here, the house is
beautiful, but something appears to be off. Prehaps it is how the
house is so empty, the family still moving in. There is frequently a
sense of unease or wrongness when I visit houses in dreams.
Dream 5:
A large shopping center with big windows overlooking the carpark. It
is a clear day outside, I stand on a balcony near the windows and
stare outside of them. I see nothing specific. Inside, the store
appears to sell alcohol, or drinks, but I never purchase anything.
This store is darker than previous ones, and carpeted. I am young in
this dream, as I had dreamed it as a child
Many of my dreams interiors are consistent with real life architecure and rules, they rarely (if ever) stray into the realms of impossibility. This is something that is so striking about my dreams - the fantasy is always grounded in reality.
Dream 6:
The hotel is large, I only remember the lobby. White marble columns,
coral carpet, gold accents. A room locked in time, mid-century in
aesthetic and taste, yet it is new and shiny. It is bright and
welcoming, but featuring an unusual elevator. A circular disk you
stand on, that rises up to the next level. No rail guards or safety
features leaves me feeling unsteady as my fear of heights threatens to
make me fall. The hotel is almost too pristine.
Dream 7:
A narrow entrance into a sub-basement bathroom. It is made of moulded
fiberglass, bright blue or white, the room is big despite the narrow
entrance. It feels as if it is wet, yet it is clean. It almost appears
clinical. This room is unpleasant to be in, and the narrow, sloped
exit threatens to keep me stuck down here, unable to find purchase.
The objects in the room are undefined, despite it being a bathroom in
concept. There appears to be a tub.
Dream 8:
At the end of a long, complicated dream, I sit barefoot and
crosslegged on the carpeted floor of a penthouse room. It overlooks a
city of white skyscrapers by the sea, all covered with blue glass
windows. The room is my office, and I am meeting with others. There
are ladders, stairs and slides that lead to and from this level to the
ones below it. The room is notably empty, as it is intended for people
to fill the space.
Interiors in my dreams are rarely the focal point of the dream-narrative, but they do play a part in the atmosphere of it, either by causing fear with claustrophobia or filth, or being large and inviting. They are dynamic settings, that I ofted with I could visit in reality.
